'I have lived my dream' Jamie Ness retires as ex-Rangers ace makes emotional online address

Former Rangers midfielder Jamie Ness has announced his retirement from football as he made an emotional online address following his decision to call it a day.

The 31-year-old spent his career between Scotland and England starting out at Ibrox before enjoying stints south of the border with Stoke City, Leyton Orient, Crewe Alexandra, Scunthorpe United and Plymouth Argyle before moving back up the road to play for Dundee and then Forfar Athletic.

Ness - who will always be remembered for that stunning goal in the Scottish Cup against Celtic - says he has made a lifetime of memories throughout his career that will never leave him.

He's lived the dream as a professional footballer in what he describes as a 'hell of a rollercoaster' but he's ready to take on the next chapter as he thanked his former team-mates, coaches, fans and everyone else who has been a part of his journey.

Writing on Instagram, he said: "After 14 years it’s time to hang up the boots. I have made a lifetime of memories that will stay with me forever.

"It’s a hell of a rollercoaster being a professional footballer and I’m grateful for every single minute of it.

"I’ve been lucky enough to have worked with some fantastic people and to have played for some fantastic clubs. Thank you to my team mates, managers, coaches, fans and everyone who has supported me on this journey.

"Most of all thank you to my family for helping me achieve everything I did, without them it wouldn’t have been possible. I have lived my dream and I’m now ready for the next chapter."

Ex-Rangers midfielder Ness managed just eight appearances for the Station Park outfit before serious injury ended his season. He suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament injury.

His old club finished second in the Scottish League Two standings last season behind champions Kelty Hearts.

But they suffered play-off disappointment with Edinburgh City the team to gain promotion to Scotland's third tier.
