Nightmare neighbours can wreak havoc on your street, whether they are pinching your wheelie bin or chopping your garden to shreds when you're not there. Noise complaints are a big bugbear, and one homeowner is so fed up they're taking petty revenge to solve it.
The fed up resident revealed how the neighbour would "make it incredibly hard to sleep" during the day, due to their apartments having "thin walls" and after asking multiple times, got their revenge by buying a large speaker and blasting their music at 3am in retaliation.
"Every other week, she would throw these loud parties with a bunch of people, mainly in the evening," the disgruntled homeowner explained on Reddit.
"Normally, I wouldn't mind people having fun and enjoying themselves, but I work a night job, and the afternoon and evening is the only time I get to sleep.
"The walls in our building are quite thin, making it incredibly hard for me to sleep while she's hosting these parties.
"I tried talking to her about the noise issue multiple times, politely asking her to be quieter."
Even though the neighbour listened, the Reddit user didn't think it was adequate enough as the issue persisted.
"To her credit, she made some effort to lower the volume after my requests, but it barely made any difference," they explained.
"I still couldn't sleep properly, and this went on for the past five months.
"I got fed up with her last week after I again asked her to turn it down, but she just told me 'that it wasn't her problem' and this caused me to finally reach my breaking point."
Not being able to take anymore of the noise whilst trying to sleep, the homeowner purchased a large speaker to giver their neighbour a taste of their own medicine, at three in the morning, despite knowing it 'was childish'.
"I decided to take matters into my own hands and ordered a large speaker, which I then used to blast music at full volume at 3am," they revealed.
"I admit, it was a pretty childish move on my part and I knew it would disturb her sleep, but I honestly felt like it was the only way to get my point across and make her understand what I was going through.
"She obviously confronted me about this but I simply responded that it 'wasn’t my problem'".
Posting the situation online, people were quick to comment that the angry homeowner was in the wrong as they "can't expect everyone else to be quiet" and that "blasting music at 3 AM is against the rules and they could get evicted for it".
With one user bluntly commenting: "You know it's childish and you still did it."
Another stating: "It's not her fault that you sleep during most people's waking hours. As long as she's within whatever noise limits are in place for your area, she's good. You meanwhile, are petty. It will be your problem when the police get called."
