Claudia Winkleman has revealed that viewers routinely write into the BBC to complain about her fringe.
The Strictly host, whose heavy bangs teamed with heavy mascara have become her signature look, said people have written to the broadcaster slamming her hairstyle.
“I am a walking fringe,” she said. “But I grew it a centimetre every month and then suddenly started getting complaints.
“I genuinely get letters of complaint. The main concerns seem to be, ‘How does she see?’ and ‘What is she hiding?’
“I also had a, ‘Have you got squirrels under there?’ which was a particularly good letter.”
Winkleman, 51, claimed that she sports the fringe deliberately so that she doesn’t need Botox.
The presenter, who tried Botox in 2016, added to The Sun: “I don’t need Botox now. Have you seen how long my fringe is? It is now almost upper-lip length. I cannot recommend it enough.”
In a 2003 clip shared to Twitter on Sunday, Winkleman looked almost unrecognisable fresh-faced and fringe-free as she interviewed Frasier actress Jane Leeves, 61.
The Traitor star, who now sports jet-black hair, wore her tresses naturally light brown and was eyeliner-free.
One fan said of the throwback clip: “This is the first time I have seen Claudia’s forehead!” Another wrote: “Why did she start wearing these heavy fringes? She looked way better without them.”
While a third commented: “I’m used to her with the fringe. This is freaking me out.”
Winkleman is set to return to the Scottish Highlands after being signed to host another season of BBC show The Traitors.
