'I finally found a baby name I love but people say it looks like a spelling error'

Choosing a name for your child can be extremely difficult, but at the end of the day the only thing that matters is what you and your partner think will suit the baby, and something they will be happy with longterm.

That being said, it can be incredibly hard as a parent to not let yourself be influenced by outside opinions, especially if they are negative.

One woman was happy she had finally found a name for her daughter she loved - but was disappointed that she had received some "not so great feedback", and some even thought it sounded made up.

The mum-to-be, who is pregnant with her first child, took to popular forum website Reddit to ask for advice, adding that they had the "hardest time landing on a name" for their baby girl. She continued: "One name I love, but have gotten some not so great feedback on us Evalie. I started out with Evelina, but then liked Evalie even more, but thus far haven't gotten great feedback on it.

"One person told me it sounds like someone with a speech impediment trying to say Everly, which is a name I already don't love. Ouch! I just think Evalie sounds so beautiful and feminine, though I wish it had a better meaning."

The anonymous woman asked for other people's opinions, and for any other suggestions they had that might meet her strict criteria, which included being feminine, have a strong meaning, have more than one syllable and not in the top 200 girls' names list.

In the comment section most people were brutally honest, sharing that they didn't love the name. One person said: "Evalie sounds made up; my phone autocorrected it three times to Eva lie. I also agree people are going to mishear it a LOT and it'll be problematic."

Another harsh critic agreed, explaining: "Evalie sounds like you misspelled or mispronounced 'Emily.'."

A third commented: "Evalie looks like the unnecessary spelling for Everly, or the way someone would lazily phonetically spell it. Autocorrect also hates it. I think Everly is a pretty name, why not just go with that? It's essentially the same?"

However, not everyone was as critical to the name, with one person saying: "I actually really like Evalie. It's pretty, unique, but also simple."
