'I feel sexier with grey hair and men hit on me more - even guys half my age'

The beauty industry has conditioned women to believe that they have to look a certain way, and if they don't fit these tiny margins, they may feel self-conscious. One of these impossible standards is hair colour, and one woman is now annoyed at her former self for thinking grey hair 'equals death', as she's 'learned to love herself' regardless of her hair colour.

Elisa Berrini Gómez, 57, first dyed her hair at age 30 when she found her first grey strand. She spent the next 22 years changing her hair colour before she realised she'd been 'brainwashed' into thinking men wouldn't find her 'sexy' with grey hair - but she said that wasn't the case.

Elisa has allowed her natural hair colour to come through - and she looks great (Elisa Berrini Gómez / SWNS)

Elisa spent a year rocking a blonde and grey look whilst the grey grew out, which she said made her look 'punky' - but she's now completely silver.

And now she says she feels 'sexier' because she 'loves herself', and even gets hit on by men aged 25 to 45.

Elisa, an implementation consultant, from Montreal, Canada, said: "I was brainwashed to think that grey hair equals old and this equals death. I felt I was only worthy as long as my grey hair didn't show.

"At 52 I stopped dying it – I just thought 'no, you’re going to stop this'. It was terrifying I thought 'men won't find me sexy if I have grey hair.' But men are super attracted to me.

"My grey hair is not what makes me sexy. I'm sexier because I've learned to love myself and have compassion for me."

Elisa did say that she was shocked at the reaction she got from other women though, after explaining she wouldn't dye her hair any longer. She said many women were gobsmacked at her decision.

But she said most people think she's 10 years younger than her actual age, and she stated that she's having the 'time of her life'.
