'I don't know': Matt O'Riley Celtic future addressed by Brendan Rodgers

In a candid admission, Brendan Rodgers revealed that he is unsure whether Matt O'Riley will remain with Celtic as the transfer window approaches its conclusion.

The 23-year-old has been at the centre of intense speculation throughout summer following being named Celtic's Player of the Year last time out, with several clubs, including Atalanta, Brighton, and Southampton, reportedly keen on securing his services.

Despite the interest, the valuation for O'Riley, set at £25million plus potential add-ons, has yet to be met.

Rodgers emphasised that Celtic are under no obligation to part ways with the talented midfielder unless their financial expectations are satisfied as he addressed the ongoing rumours surrounding the player.

"I don't know is the honest answer," Rodgers told the Premier Sports panel after Celtic beat Hibernian to reach the Premier Sports Cup quarter-finals.

"You see with him that he is an incredibly talented player.

"There is a value we have for him, and if that's not met he will be here - it's as simple as that. He is really happy here, but it has to be something that draws him away.

"I am not overthinking it. We all know the model here at Celtic - players will improve and they will get to a level that get beyond, not the club, but in terms of the financial salary. But until that comes we continue to work with him."
