‘I could see how there could be some advantage of having Carmelo … on the roster,’ says Brian Scalabrine

Former Celtic champion and current Boston broadcaster Brian Scalabrine offered an interesting take on the prospect of Boston signing veteran forward Carmelo Anthony during his recent Sirius FM radio appearance.

“I think that Brad (Stevens) looks at Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown; they look up to guys like (Anthony). They looked up to Joe Johnson, and Brad thought it was really cool to bring Joe Johnson in.

“I think this will be the same kind of thing. Carmelo Anthony — watch him on Instagram helping his son out; this is what you have to do. He’s working out with younger kids,” added the White Mamba. “I could see how there could be some advantage of having Carmelo … on the roster.”

Conversely, however, Brown and Tatum are not by any measure of the imagination “kids” anymore and might chafe at being sonned by a man who, for all his accolades and accomplishments, has not managed to get as deep in the postseason as they already have without his help.

We get what Scal is trying to say here, and the Jays and the rest of the team most certainly have plenty more to learn.

We’re just not sure Anthony is the right kind of teacher for lessons on how to succeed at a level of play he never managed to reach in the first place.
