Christmas is around the corner and many of us have started thinking about what we're going to have for our Christmas dinner and where we should buy it to get the best deal. Hosting the family for a meal on Christmas Day is certainly a joyous occasion but can work out very expensive, especially if you have to buy lots of things you don't already have in your fridge, freezer or cupboard.
Most people in Wales have roast turkey for their Christmas dinner, so we've centred our price comparison around roast turkey and trimmings. We've listed prices for three of the most common side dishes: roast potatoes, stuffing balls, pigs in blankets, and one of the most common Christmas vegetables: Brussel sprouts. We've also priced up gravy and everyone's favourite festive dessert, Christmas pudding.
Of course, between now and Christmas Eve, supermarkets may start offering special deals or money-off vouchers for regular customers. Or, unfortunately, prices could also increase. We've compared the cost of a frozen turkey and trimmings at the big six supermarkets to give you an idea of how much you can get for your money at each supermarket - and to help you decide whether it's worth 'shopping around' for the best deal. Our verdict
Whilst it can be difficult to compare like-for-like products as different supermarkets offer different-sized packets of items and the actual products can differ too, we've tried to keep the products on our lists as similar as possible - especially in terms of how many items are in a pack or how much a packet weighs.
With this in mind, as of December 2, 2022, the cheapest supermarket to buy your full Christmas Dinner is Aldi, coming in at almost £6 cheaper than the cost of the similar products available at Morrisons, the most expensive total price on our list. That's £6 in your pocket or that could go towards an extra treat for Christmas dinner or a small gift!
If you're going to someone else's for Christmas Dinner and you're an item or two, you might find it useful to know the cheapest small frozen turkey we found was £13.49 at both Aldi (2.8kg to 4kg) and Lidl (2.8kg to 5kg), and the cheapest Christmas Pudding we found was £1.85 (400g) at Aldi.
