I compared a £55 'Christmas meat hamper' to Marks and Spencer items and saved a fortune

A new study has revealed that ‘Marks and Spencer’ is the UK’s most Googled supermarket for Christmas food 2022.

The M&S shop is a tradition for many but amid a cost of living crisis is it the cheapest option to get quality Christmas meat? I have shopped around this year, so when I saw that the Muscle Food Luxury Beef Topside Christmas Hamper was on offer for just £55 I ordered it to see where I could save some cash.

M&S places first as the most searched for supermarket when it comes to Christmas food with an average of 25,000 searches a month. The search term “M&S Christmas food” receives over double the queries of Waitrose, the second-placed supermarket.

I have taken a look at the items available in this year's Muscle Food haul to compare the price of some of M&S's similar items - and the price difference is staggering.

M&S currently has a 1.07kg roasting beef joint which is £20.33. When thinking of purchasing a hamper with 14 other items for a total of £55. I am very optimistic when considering which will be best value for money.

To get the best estimation of the saving I would make ordering my Christmas food, I headed straight to the Ocado website to tally up exactly (or as near as) the same order I would be getting from Muscle Food, and it came to approximately £133.45.

The Muscle Food Hamper is £55 so I would be getting it for more than half price (a £78.45 saving to be exact) so for me, ordering Muscle Food for this year's Christmas food was a no brainer.

The main bulk of the order I tried to mimic at Ocado included:

- M&S Select Roasting Boneless Beef Joint- 1.07kg (£20.33)

- M&S Select Farms Unsmoked Bacon Medallions (£3.90)

- M&S Select 12 X Chipolatas (£3.75)

- M&S Pigs in Blankets (£4.50)

The Muscle Food order had everything else included from stuffing, vegetables, burgers, more sausages - and even two rump steaks! My fridge is now fully stocked and loaded ready for a gorgeous festive break with family.

Set your sights on the Muscle Food offering here for a massive variety of different hampers to suit everybody's needs - order dates are still available but very nearly sold out... so be quick!
