'I can't think' - Richard Keys weighs in on controversial 'third half' Liverpool goal against Newcastle

Renowned pundit Richard Keys has weighed in on Liverpool’s seemingly controversial winning goal against Newcastle United.

The Reds claimed a dramatic 2-1 victory over Newcastle at Anfield in their Premier League clash on Wednesday night. It saw Jurgen Klopp’s side record back-to-back victories following their win over Bournemouth at the weekend.

Liverpool were trailing going into halftime after Newcastle’s summer signing Alexander Isak put the visitors in front. The Reds would need to perform a second-half comeback to claim all three points.

Roberto Firmino equalised before substitute Fabio Carvalho scored the winner in the eighth minute of second-half stoppage time. The Newcastle bench was furious with the goal, after only five minutes of added time were shown by the fourth official.

However, during the added time Newcastle goalkeeper Nick Pope was receiving treatment from the medical staff for a lengthy stoppage. This led to referee Andre Marriner adding more time onto the original allocated by the fourth official.

After the controversy, Keys has given his take on the goal. The pundit has made a claim of how much time he thinks should have been added on by the referee.

“I can’t think of a better argument for an independent time-keeper than Liverpool’s goal in the third half last night,” Keys wrote on Twitter.

“Pope was on the floor 90 seconds in the five added. So the whistle should’ve gone at 96.30. Liverpool scored in the 98th minute.”
