I blind taste tested Aldi's £2 Lindt truffle dupes compared to the real thing and they were almost identical

If you're a bit of a chocolate fiend like me, then you're bound to love Lindt Lindor Truffles.

For me, there's nothing more luxurious than one of these chocolates, I'd even go as far to say that they are definitely one of my favourites. Once I've had one of these truffles, I find it hard to stop eating them.

There's one thing that puts me off purchasing these more than I do, though, and that's the price. For a 200g box from a supermarket like Asda, you're looking at at least £4.

READ MORE: I blind taste tested Aldi's £2.59 Ferrero Rocher dupes and the real thing and it was so close

We all know how good Aldi is for dupes, and as soon as I saw that the retailer was offering its own Moser Roth truffles for £2.69, I knew I had to give them a go. I'm always a little dubious when it comes to food dupes, so really wanted to see if the Aldi version was the same in terms of taste.

After a very thorough taste test (too thorough, because I ended up eating loads) I've come to a conclusion. The comparison between the two was so close - here's what I found.

The look

It's pretty clear to see that the Moser Roth chocolates are a version of the luxurious Lindor ones. Although aesthetically, both boxes of truffles are different in terms of colour, they are very similar in style.

I personally think the Lindor version looks slightly 'posher' but that could be because of the red colouring as opposed to the blue. The boxes of truffles are virtually the same in terms of shape and size, with few minor design differences like the font.

Both boxes are 200g, with the Aldi version approximately £1.31 cheaper than the Lindt version. The chocolates look identical in the wrappers, and although the Aldi version looks bigger in its wrapper, they are still the same size as the Lindor ones - so no extra chocolate unfortunately.

After unwrapping both chocolates, they looked identical in terms of shape and size, but how did the Aldi version taste?

The taste and texture

I had my eyes closed and tasted both chocolates (several times) and I was very surprised at the results. The two chocolates tasted virtually the same, apart from a few very small differences.

Both chocolates had that very luxurious and rich texture that we all know and love, but the Aldi chocolate did taste ever so slightly different. It actually had more of a caramel flavour, as opposed to the decadent milk chocolate Lindt.

For me, this definitely wasn't a bad thing, because the Aldi chocolate was still thick and creamy in terms of texture. I'd say that the Lindt chocolate was slightly richer in terms of consistency, and a little more smooth on the tongue.

The Aldi chocolate had the crunch of the thick outer layer of chocolate just like the Lindt version, to reveal the heavenly gooey centre. I could definitely tell which one was the Aldi dupe, but it still tasted absolutely incredible.

The Moser Roth truffles were super sweet with a hint of caramel, with the Lindt version carrying a 'richer' flavour. Overall, I was super impressed with the dupe, and I actually really liked the hint of caramel.

The verdict

I'm pretty chuffed with the Aldi Lindt dupe. Although it's just £1 cheaper, in this current economic climate, every little helps - and it tastes so similar to the original.

It's rich, it's creamy, it's luxurious and it's the perfect chocolatey treat. If it was me, I'd probably purchase the Aldi dupes to keep at home for a night in front of the telly, but I'd stick with the usual Lindt balls for a gift because of its well known branding.

If we're going off taste alone, the Moser Roth truffles were so incredibly close. I was expecting them to be a tad similar, but no where near as close to this.

Let's just say, I'd quite comfortably eat a whole box of these with no regrets. In fact, I think I probably will.
