When you invite someone into your home, it is important to set out your ground rules early on. Otherwise, you risk awkward misunderstandings. One woman learned this lesson the hard way after her younger sister moved in with her and her husband, and in an effort to be helpful, did the couple's laundry.
But her efforts were not well received as her host was left mortified that her sibling had washed her partner's underwear. While the woman was upset by the gesture, neither her husband or sister thought her reaction was proportionate, prompting her to take to Reddit to ask for her advice.

In her post, she admitted she had berated her younger sister, 23. She also explained her sibling had moved in a week ago, to live with the couple, aged 31 and 29 respectively, rent-free.
She explained: "She does not contribute money but takes on lots of house chores as a way to compensate for it. She'd cook, clean, organize [sic], vacuum etc."
"Yesterday, I was at work and came home and found that she'd done my husband's laundry. I was stunned as I felt this was...not her place nor was it appropriate because for one I always do his laundry and more importantly, I did not think it was appropriate for her to be looking at his underwear.
"She downplayed the whole thing saying it was no big deal and that she saw that I was struggling with work and then kids and wanted to help me by doing the laundry. I told her she shouldn't have done it but my husband didn't react and she used that to support her argument saying no one thinks it's a big deal except me.
The misunderstanding soon turned into a heated argument, as the wife stood her ground on the matter.
She continued: "We argued and she shut me down then started crying saying she meant well and was trying to help out. But I couldn't help but think this was not her place.
"My husband told me to drop it but I can't shake this weird feeling I got. He told me I should apologize to her for berating her but I refused."
In response, people were quick to blast the woman's reaction, with many struggling to understand her complaint.
One reply read: "It’s just clothes and not even particularly attractive clothes. Are they sexy lacy bits? Nope. More likely stained, stretched out saggy cotton in blue, grey or black.
"Let’s be honest means underwear aren’t making anyone think sexy thoughts." Someone else said: "You are making a nothing into a huge big deal."
And another joked: "Can you send your sister to my house? I have plenty of chores including laundry I would like someone else to do, and I won't yell at them until they cry for doing it either."
