'I baked my own wedding cake to save money - some say I must be joking but I love it'

There's no right or wrong way to do a wedding.

As long as you and your partner are happy, there's no minimum budget that needs to be met or specific requirements when it comes to food, colour schemes, or venues.

And one woman on TikTok named Laura truly believes that sentiment, as she decided to make her wedding day as sentimental as possible by having a homemade wedding cake that she baked in her own kitchen just two days before the ceremony.

The woman, from the US, used Betty Crocker rainbow cake mix to make six sponges - three 10-inch ones and three eight-inch ones - which she then stacked on top of one another with icing in between each layer to make a two-tier cake.

In her video, which was posted to her @darlinggoose account, she said: "I'm getting married in two days and today I'm baking our wedding cake."

Laura iced her cake and decorated it with multi-coloured sprinkles the night before her wedding, and added a large cake topper that spelt out her new last name.

She captioned the clip: "Not sure if making my wedding cake at midnight the night before my wedding was the best idea."

The bride was thrilled with the final result of her baking efforts, but she was met with some criticism from a few of the video's 1,000 commenters - as some said it must be a "joke".

One troll said: "Is this a joke? It looks more like it's for a birthday."

While another added: "I can hear your guests judging."

But most commenters on the video were hugely supportive of Laura and her decision to make her own cake, as they said she was wise to not spent hundreds of dollars on a professional effort.

Someone stated: "Some of these comments need to chill. It’s her wedding, she can have whatever type of cake she wants. I think it’s cute and unique!"

As someone else agreed, writing: "People are so mean. I can’t remember anyone’s cake at weddings I’ve been to. If you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. It's your day! Congrats!"

While a third person said: "Thank god someone has some common sense and doesn’t pay $500 (£407) for a wedding cake. You’re beautiful, let that shine - not your cake!"
