I baked Aldi's Domino's cookie dupes and they left my kitchen smelling incredible

Whenever I’m placing an order for delivery at Domino’s, it’s impossible to resist adding their popular gooey cookies onto the end of our order.

Chewy, gooey and delicious, the warm chocolate chip brownies are the perfect way to end a tasty takeaway.

And sometimes, I consider just ordering the cookies - however, there’s a minimum £12 spend for delivery, which isn’t something I can justify just for some freshly baked cookies.

But when I was doing my Aldi shop, I spotted these Carlos Takeaway cookies, which also have a ‘chewy and gooey’ promise on the front of the pack.

Priced at £1.69 for four cookies, they were a snip of the price of Domino’s £4.99 dessert - nearly a third off the price.

Made with Belgian chocolate, the cookies come in a pizza-style box, and when you first open them, they don’t look particularly appetising.

These cookies have to be baked in the oven for 10 minutes before eating them, which, while you do have to do most of the leg work, is a small price to pay when you’re saving money.

I popped the four cookies on a baking tray and left them in the oven between gas mark 6 and 7, before returning 10 minutes later to the smell of freshly baked chocolate chip cookies wafting through the kitchen.

This experience alone is worth the price tag of Aldi’s cookies, before even tasting them. If my house could smell like a cookie bakery every day, I’d be ecstatic.

As they came out of the oven, they looked quite small in diameter, but really tall too - so I got a tablespoon and pressed them down slightly, which gave them a more cookie-like shape, similar to the Domino’s version.

I left the cookies to cool for a couple of minutes whilst I made a cup of tea, and grabbed one to enjoy with my cuppa.

They were certainly chewy and gooey, without the greasiness that comes with Domino’s cookies. Domino’s version have a crispier outer, which I think could be achieved with the Aldi dupe on a lower heat for a longer amount of time, but having followed the instructions to a tee, they were still very delicious, rich and chocolatey.

I like the fact you can choose how many cookies to bake at a time, and could pop just the one in the oven for yourself, or bake two whole boxes if you’ve got guests coming around.

I find with Domino’s, having demolished a Meateor pizza, I’m unlikely to touch my cookies while they’re still warm, and instead they sit on the side for hours until I fancy one, by which point, they’re never as nice.

Aldi’s cookies, and the fact you can bake them whenever you fancy them, gives more flexibility and is much less wasteful.

I think Aldi’s Carlos fakeaway cookies are definitely going to find their way into my basket more often.
