Liverpool’s Georgian Quarter regularly stuns visitors to the city with its beauty - and now a restaurant there has achieved national recognition.
The Quarter on Falkner Street was named by The Guardian last weekend as one of the best places to eat breakfast in the UK. The newspaper said it was a “much-loved” destination and argued it was “beautifully situated” in between the city’s two cathedrals.
This came after it was recommended by the ECHO as part of our insider’s guide to food and drink. I knew of its reputation for Italian dishes, but far less so for its breakfast offering, so I decided to see if it lived up to the hype.

Falkner Street never disappoints on a sunny day, with the beautifully preserved period houses looking radiant. As per The Guardian’s recommendation, I grabbed a table outside for a bit of al fresco dining.
I also followed its food choice, opting for a Quarter Pancake. This sweet and savoury option contains a pancake draped in berry compote, honey and yoghurt.
A sweet option isn’t my go-to choice for breakfasts, but on this occasion I was delighted I’d done something a little different. The two large pancakes were topped with the refreshing taste of strawberries and blueberries.
This flavour was enhanced by the berry compote and the yoghurt. It was such a large portion I struggled to get through the two pancakes, so you could definitely get one to share if you’re visiting The Quarter with someone else.
I wisely gave the Breakfast Mimosa a miss, but I’m sure that would be a slightly more exciting option than my apple juice. If I visited The Quarter again in the evening, I wouldn’t mind trying out the locally brewed Baltic Pale Ale too.
The surroundings are great too. The restaurant's teal and white colour scheme and hanging plants outside, combined with its location on a timeless cobbled street, make it a truly great place to be.
The service was also friendly and quick. It was around 11.30am on a weekday when I visited and I had plenty of choices to sit inside and out, but at busier times I’ve seen its outdoor area packed out.
It’s no wonder that The Quarter has received praise from further afield. There’s not many better things than having great food on one of Liverpool’s most beautiful streets. The Quarter is located at 7 Falkner Street.
