You could say that an engagement ring is the most important piece of jewellery you'll ever own, because there's an expectation you'll wear it everyday for the rest of your life.
With that in mind, you going to want it to be a piece you really love - because the last thing you want is to be wearing something you hate every single day.
One woman has revealed how she went as far as asking her husband to replace her engagement ring because she hated the one he picked out for her - and people have been left divided.
Bee Finnagain ( @beefinnagain ) recently took to TikTok to reveal how she approached telling her husband that she hated the ring and desperately wanted a new one.
"I'm probably going to get a lot of hate for this and honestly I'm okay with that, I am aware that I'm a lot and Patrick's aware that I'm a lot too, and here we are four years later, so it's fine," she explained in a clip.
Bee went on to say that she and her partner were dating for several years and were very much in the marriage head space, so she told him on a number of occasions that she wanted an engagement ring that featured a halo.
When it finally came for Patrick to propose, Bee says her then-future hubby didn't ask anyone for help. He didn't reach out to any of her friends or family, or even his own sister or mum for advice when it came to picking the ring.
Patrick got down on one knee and asked her to marry him - to which she said yes - but she was slightly mortified to see he'd picked a princess cut diamond with no halo.
"It's a beautiful diamond, but it's just not what I wanted, so afterwards I wanted home and my mum asked if I liked the ring, and I literally started crying," she said. "I was like, no I hate it so much and I have to wear it forever!"
After a week of friends and family questioning whether she loved her ring, Bee decided to approach her man and ask if he'd be willing to buy her a different ring.
In the end, Patrick was able to get a refund on the original ring, before spending double the amount on a ring Bee chose herself in the jewellery store. We do love a happy ending!
