'I am ready' - West Ham goalkeeper makes loan transfer admission amid wait for senior debut

West Ham United goalkeeper Krisztian Hegyi says he wants to go out on loan in the summer.

The 20-year-old stopper has been with the Hammers since 2019 following his move from Hungarian side Haldas. He has amassed 50 appearances in total for the U21 side and was named captain at the start of the 2022/23 campaign.

Hegyi has also been a recurring feature among the first-team squad this season too. The Hungarian youth international has been in David Moyes’ matchday squad on nine occasions across all competitions, including four of West Ham’s six Europa Conference League group fixtures.

The goalkeeper is yet to make his senior debut though and Hegyi, who is contracted to the Irons until 2025, confirmed in an interview with Nemzeti Sport that he will look to head out on loan next season to gain first-team football experience.

“I am ready for a loan contract, my club thinks so too, so there may be an opportunity for that in the summer. Needless to say, I’m really looking forward to it,” said Hegyi.

“The best goalkeepers in Premier League 2 can at best go on loan to the fourth or third division, so this will probably be a reality. In England, they believe that as a goalkeeper you have to go through your difficulties first.

"Keeping up in the English fourth line is significantly more challenging than in the Championship, because there are many more passes, the game is rougher and the pitches are of poorer quality.

“They say that this is a mentally difficult period, but you have to experience this before the even bigger tests of strength. A lot will depend on how the loan game turns out, the first year spent in senior football will be a watershed in terms of how long it will take me to get to where I want to be.”
