Hyundai's New Infotainment System Uses One Massive Screen

Hyundai Motor Group has revealed its next-generation infotainment system. It's part of a broader software endeavor called Pleos, which includes the infotainment system, vehicle operating system, and an application development platform. The Pleos software brand will also connect to the cloud, offering fleet management services and mobility solutions.

Pleos Connect will launch in the second quarter of 2026. Hyundai is building the next-gen software on Android Automotive OS, which will feature split-view, multi-window functions, and a smartphone-like user interface. It will also have an AI assistant called Gleo AI.

The Pleos Connect ecosystem will provide users with an ID for a personalized experience. According to the company, a user's profile will be accessible in any Ploes Connect-based vehicle. The new infotainment experience will launch in the second quarter of 2026, and Hyundai expects the system to be in 20 million cars by the end of the decade.

Pleos and Pleos Connect are part of the company's effort to develop software-defined vehicles. The in-house-developed vehicle operating system will allow HMG to decouple hardware and software development, providing continuous vehicle updates. HMG will also have Pleos Playground for third-party app developers.

HMG's images of the new system reveal a very Tesla-like setup, with a large, landscape-oriented screen in the center of the dash and no other buttons visible. We hope HMG doesn't fully embrace the future and try to eliminate every possible button. Not everyone likes burying all the controls in a screen, including Hyundai. The brand discovered some people find touchscreens downright annoying.
