HYDERABAD: In a much relief to Hyderabadis, who were battered by steep hike in petrol and diesel prices, the prices remained steady for the tenth consecutive day on Saturday after almost one-and-a-half months.
The rates were last increased by 80 paise per litre on April 6, which had marked the 14th increase since March 22. Petrol and diesel had become costlier by 10 a litre after the consecutive hikes in March and April.
“The crude oil price is susceptible to changes. They vary based on various factors including dollar price,” Amarender Reddy, president of Telangana Petroleum Dealers Association told STOI adding that the prices may increase further after remaining constant for a few more days.
In Hyderabad, a litre of petrol was 119.49, while diesel rate stands at 105.49.
The price of diesel crossed the 100 per litre mark for the first times on March 30 in Hyderabad and continued to record an upward trend till the first week of April. Simultaneously, the petrol prices too rose continuously and remained constant for the last 10 days. The price of petrol, which was last hiked on April 6 remains unchanged till Saturday.
“It was a much needed relief. Hope the fuel prices, which are constant for the last 10 days, will not increase further,” said P Suresh Murthy, a resident of Marredpally, who owns a four-wheeler and three two-wheelers.
STOI made an attempt to speak to auto drivers. “We can’t stop transport even if the fuel prices remain constant or hiked further. If prices were hiked further, we will not have much to take home,” said auto drivers.
