Hyatt to open first Scottish hotel in Edinburgh

Hyatt Hotels will open its first hotel in Scotland after entering into a franchise arrangement with the Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC).

The Hyatt Centric Edinburgh Haymarket is slated to open in mid-2025 and will have 349 bedrooms.

It will be located less than 1,000 feet from the EICC, part of the new Haymarket Edinburgh development, which will have office blocks and retail units.

The development will also include a hospitality training academy focused on a career path in Scotland’s leisure, hospitality and tourism industry.

Separately, the EICC announced that it had taken on the management and operation of Convention Edinburgh, to help the city’s business event sector.

Convention Edinburgh was temporarily closed in May 2020, and the agreement with City of Edinburgh Council will see the EICC run the capital's convention bureau services for an initial 18-month period, which can be extended for 2024 and beyond by the mutual agreement of all parties.

The EICC has put in place a team of executives to lead Convention Edinburgh, headed up by Amanda Wrathall and supported by Jennifer Henry, Lyndsey Rafferty, Debbie Rose and Jill Spink.

The team will manage the day-to-day running of Convention Edinburgh, which involves managing enquiries and carrying out business development activities, reporting to city stakeholders including the City of Edinburgh Council and a newly-formed advisory group, as well as promoting the city as a destination for business events.

Hyatt’s vice president for development in Europe and North Africa, Felicity Black-Roberts, said: “We are thrilled to be collaborating with the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Hyatt Centric Haymarket Edinburgh, which will mark the Hyatt Centric brand’s entry into one of the world’s most celebrated capital cities.

"This new-build development demonstrates Hyatt’s commitment to growing its portfolio of lifestyle brands across the UK, in locations that matter most to our guests, members, customers, and owners."

The hotel - designed by Foster + Partners - will offer a gym, and four meeting rooms, as well as 'creative dining experiences' via six rotating street food brands.

EICC chief executive Marshall Dallas added: “Hyatt Centric Edinburgh Haymarket will be a cornerstone to attracting local and international travellers and notable luminaries to our venue each year."
