The latest update from the National Hurricane Center indicates that Hurricane Milton has weakened to a 145 mph Category 4 hurricane. The storm is currently positioned about 545 miles southwest of Tampa and is moving east-northeast at a speed of 12 mph.
After reaching record-breaking strength on Monday, Milton has experienced a slight decrease in intensity. However, forecasters predict that the hurricane will regain Category 5 status by Tuesday morning and maintain this strength throughout the day.
Projections suggest that Milton will make landfall as a significantly larger Category 3 hurricane late on Wednesday. The expanding size of the storm as it traverses Florida has prompted the issuance of hurricane warnings for the east coast of the state, extending from the Indian River/St. Lucie County Line northward to Ponte Vedra Beach.
