As Hurricane Milton made landfall in Florida overnight, Sarasota County Emergency Management Chief Sandra Tapfumaneyi warned residents that the road to recovery will be long. In a Wednesday morning update, Tapfumaneyi emphasized the intensity of the disaster facing Sarasota County.

Tapfumaneyi urged residents to take immediate action, stating, 'This is the time to take action and we ask you to do so in the next couple of hours, you still have time.' She highlighted that basic infrastructure may be impacted for days, with power outages likely affecting most, if not all, of the county.
