Hurricane Debby Causes 5.5 Feet Storm Surge In Florida

As Hurricane Debby approaches landfall in Florida’s Big Bend region, storm surge is rapidly accumulating along the shore. Cedar Key, located approximately 25 miles from where the hurricane is expected to make landfall, is currently experiencing a storm surge measuring around 5.5 feet, which is the height of the water level above normal tide.

Despite high tide being projected for 4 a.m. at Cedar Key, the powerful winds of Hurricane Debby have caused the water level to rise by approximately a foot since then. This surge is a result of the storm's forceful winds pushing water towards the shore.

With the storm's winds persisting in an onshore direction, there is a possibility that water levels may continue to increase in the coming hours. Residents in the area are advised to stay informed about the situation and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
