Hurricane Danielle has taken an “unexpected" new direction as one weather expert described the storm as an “impressive looking beast.”
Recent forecasts had shown the high-strength weather event tracking towards Ireland as experts remained on alert for updates on its pending arrival.
This afternoon, however, one weather expert took to social media with an update on its “unexpected turn” as fears of it hitting Ireland head-on are diminished.
Alan O’Reilly, of Carlow Weather, took to Twitter and wrote: “The sun rises over hurricane Danielle in the Atlantic and she is an impressive looking beast out in the Atlantic that has increased in strength but it will move over colder waters in the coming days and weaken before taking an expected turn Southeast towards Portugal.”
Despite the fact that the hurricane will no longer hit us, we’re still in for another few days of very grim conditions with numerous weather warnings in place today.
A status yellow thunderstorm warning was in place for Meath, Cavan, Monaghan and Donegal as potential lightning strikes are expected alongside heavy showers.
It was in effect from 3.35pm until 6pm this evening as the Irish forecaster warns of “thunderstorm activity this afternoon” which would "lead to occasional lightning strikes with heavy showers possible.”
Earlier today, meteorologists put a warning in place for Co Cork, as “heavy showers” moved in along with “possible isolated thunderstorms” and “spot flooding.”
This status yellow rain warning has been in effect for the southern county since 9:35 this morning and remains active until 8pm this evening.
