Hurricane Beryl Strengthens, Major Impact Expected In Cayman Islands

Aftermath of Hurricane Otis

As of 11 p.m. ET, Hurricane Beryl is intensifying and currently located 160 miles southeast of Grand Cayman, with maximum sustained winds reaching 130 mph, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The hurricane-force winds of Beryl extend outward up to 45 miles from its center, while tropical-storm-force winds reach up to 185 miles.

Although some weakening is anticipated in the next 24 to 48 hours, Beryl is expected to maintain major hurricane intensity as it approaches the Cayman Islands on Thursday.

The National Hurricane Center forecasts that Beryl will experience additional weakening after passing the Cayman Islands, but it is likely to remain a hurricane until it reaches the Yucatan Peninsula on Friday.

Residents and authorities in the affected areas are advised to closely monitor the progress of Hurricane Beryl and follow any evacuation orders or safety guidelines issued by local officials.
