Hurlford man jailed after threatening to rape police officer's sister

A Hurlford man threatened to rape a police officer’s sister.

Stephen Forbes shouted offensive and sickening threats at police after he was arrested for breaking a wing mirror with a bottle of cider on August 1.

Forbes, 33, appeared in the dock at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court and admitted damaging property and behaving in a threatening and abusive manner by making threats.

Forbes was found by a resident of Morris Crescent in Hurlford around 7.30pm after he smashed a car wing mirror with the bottle.

After hearing the noise the man came out of his house and found Forbes standing at his car.

Forbes, whose address was given in court as Kermuir Avenue, said: “I’m sorry for breaking your wing mirror.”

The fiscal depute told the court: “Police officers were present at the time and the accused was identified by the witness.

“He told police ‘I already apologised for breaking his wing mirror. It was only a bottle of cider I used’.”

Forbes was arrested but when officers placed him in a police vehicle he became aggressive and en route to Saltcoats police station he threatened: “I will rape your sister.”

Forbes then called the officers a range of offensive names, including child molesters.

He was taken to a cell but was not cautioned and charged due to his aggressive behaviour.

Sheriff Alastair Watson commented that Forbes “seems to think he can abuse police officers with some kind of impunity.”

Forbes’ agent said: “His record certainly does not make for good reading.

“He does have an issue with drug misuse.”

Sheriff Watson told Forbes: “You got released early from your sentence, which is not due to expire until May, on the basis that you were expected to behave yourself.”

Forbes was returned to prison for eight months to serve the end of a previous sentence.

He will then serve a further 20 weeks in prison for the new offences.
