Huntington Bancshares Earnings Preview: What to Expect

Valued at a market cap of $18.4 billion, Huntington Bancshares Incorporated (HBAN) is a diversified regional bank holding company. Through its subsidiary, The Huntington National Bank, it offers a wide range of financial services, including commercial, consumer, and mortgage banking, as well as wealth management, treasury management, and digital banking solutions. The Columbus, Ohio-based company is expected to announce its fiscal Q1 earnings results on Thursday, Apr. 17. 

Ahead of this event, analysts project the company to report a profit of $0.31 per share, up 10.7% from $0.28 per share in the year-ago quarter. The company has beaten Wall Street's EPS estimates in all of the last four quarters, which is impressive. 

 

In the fourth quarter, Huntington Bancshares reported EPS of $0.34, surpassing consensus estimates by 9.7%. This outperformance was driven by solid net interest income, effective expense management, and stable credit quality. The bank also benefited from higher yields on earning assets amid a favorable interest rate environment while maintaining disciplined cost control and a resilient loan portfolio.

For fiscal 2025, analysts expect HBAN to report an EPS of $1.38 per share, up 11.3% from $1.24 in fiscal 2024. Moreover, EPS is expected to increase 13% year-over-year to $1.56 per share in fiscal 2026.

Shares of HBAN have plunged 6.8% over the past 52 weeks, trailing the S&P 500 Index's ($SPX) 1.4% dip and the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund’s (XLF7.3% return over the same period.

Following the release of its Q4 2024 earnings, shares of Huntington Bancshares rose 1% on January 17. The company reported a quarterly profit that more than doubled, driven by a sharp uptick in capital markets performance and higher net interest income. Revenue from capital markets and advisory services jumped 74% to $120 million, while wealth and asset management revenue climbed 8% to $93 million.

Analysts' consensus view on Huntington Bancshares’ stock is moderately bullish, with a "Moderate Buy" rating overall. Among 19 analysts covering the stock, 12 recommend a "Strong Buy," one suggests a "Moderate Buy," five indicate a “Hold” rating, and one gives a "Strong Sell." 

Its average analyst price target of $18.50 indicates a premium of 46.8% from the current market prices.
