Hunter Wildfires coach Joey de Dassel will use a 10-a-side gala day at Concord on Saturday to finalise preparations for their Jack Scott Cup campaign.
In his first year in charge of the Wildfires women, de Dassel has assembled a 34-player squad to play in Sydney's premier rugby union competition.
The Wildfires have been training since the end of January but have not played any of their scheduled trial games due to wet weather.
"It's been a long pre-season and you can only do so much training before you just need to play," de Dassel said.
"There's a few spots up for grabs in that first match-day 23, so there will be some players playing to put their best foot forward this weekend to try to get themselves in that team."

The Wildfires will play three games at Sydney Women's Rugby Union 10s gala day.
"It's hard given that it's 10-a-side for us to do too much of how we want to play as a 15-a-side but, having said that, it's a good opportunity to build some combinations in the backs and in the forwards," de Dassel said.
"Just the ability to get on the field and play together is exciting. There's quite a few new players to our team so enabling them to have an opportunity to play together is exciting and is certainly going to be very valuable."
Hunter play Western Sydney Two Blues in the opening round of the Jack Scott Cup next weekend.
