HUNTER New England has recorded another two COVID-related deaths, as the region stubbornly continues to record the highest new case numbers in the state.

There were more than 2,150 new COVID cases recorded in Hunter New England in the 24 hours to 4pm on Sunday - the most of any local health district within the same time period.

Of these, 635 cases were identified via PCR testing, and another 1,523 were the results of rapid antigen tests reported to NSW Health.

It comes as the state recorded 15,572 positive test results in the 24 hours to 4pm Sunday.

NSW Health said six people across the state lost their lives with COVID-19. Of those, one was a man in his 70s from the Maitland LGA and a man in 80s from the Glen Innes area.

There are currently 75 COVID-19 cases receiving care in hospitals across the Hunter New England Local Health District, and seven in intensive care units.
