Hunter Biden Whistleblowers Invited As 'Honorable' Guests to Trump's Speech By Top Republican Lawmakers

Republican lawmakers Jim Jordan and James Comer have invited IRS whistleblowers Gary Shapley and Joseph Ziegler as honored guests to Donald Trump's congressional address, highlighting the GOP's continued focus on Hunter Biden.

Shapley and Ziegler were key figures in the House Republicans' 2023 investigation into Hunter Biden's finances, testifying about alleged political interference in the federal probe into the president's son, Politico reported.

"They are honorable public servants who risked their careers and livelihoods to expose misconduct and politicization in the federal criminal investigation of Hunter Biden," Comer and Jordan said in a statement.

The whistleblowers' testimony fueled the GOP's impeachment inquiry into former President Joe Biden, which ultimately did not result in a vote. Hunter Biden was charged with tax evasion in California, but the charges were dropped after Joe Biden issued a broad pardon for him before leaving office.

Meanwhile, Hunter Biden sued the IRS in 2023, arguing that the whistleblowers unlawfully disclosed his confidential financial information.

By inviting Shapley and Ziegler to Trump's speech on Tuesday, Jordan and Comer are signaling that Republican scrutiny of the Biden family remains a key priority even after Joe Biden's presidency.

Trump's address is expected to highlight his administration's agenda and could include references to ongoing Republican investigations into the Biden family.
