A panel of 12 Delaware citizens is currently deliberating in the federal gun trial against Hunter Biden, marking a historic moment in American legal history as the child of a sitting president faces trial. The indictment was brought forth by the Justice Department, led by special counsel David Weiss, who was appointed to oversee the Hunter Biden probes.

At 54 years old, Hunter Biden stands accused of illegally purchasing and possessing a gun while allegedly abusing or being addicted to drugs, a violation of federal law. Despite pleading not guilty to the three charges, he has been candid about his struggles with alcohol and crack cocaine addiction.

The first two charges in the indictment are related to the gun purchase itself. When purchasing a firearm, individuals are required to fill out a form with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, affirming their legal eligibility to acquire the weapon. Hunter Biden is accused of providing false information on these forms, specifically regarding his drug use.

The third count pertains to the possession of the gun, as it is illegal to possess a firearm while abusing drugs under federal law. Hunter Biden allegedly had the gun for 11 days in October 2018 before his girlfriend disposed of it due to concerns about his mental health.

Legal experts emphasize the importance of gun laws in preventing firearms from falling into the wrong hands. While the evidence appears to be compelling against Hunter Biden, questions arise regarding the determination of addiction and the adherence to established rules.

If convicted on all three counts, the president's son could potentially face up to 25 years in prison.
