A woman was ploughed down by a car in a hit-and-run in a Leicestershire village on Tuesday (October 25). The woman in her 40s is a member of anti-hunting group, Northants Hunt Saboteurs.
Officers were called to a report of a woman being struck by a car which had then left the scene in Braunston Road, in Knossington, close to the border with Rutland, shortly before midday. A spokesperson for Leicestershire Police confirmed the woman was taken to hospital with injuries that were said to be "not life-threatening or life-changing".
A video of the incident shared widely on social media showed a group of people who appeared to be monitoring a hunt, reports Leicestershire Live. The footage showed two riders passing a group of people walking along a wooded path, before a woman was seen being knocked off the path by a car.
The police said that the driver of the car had been identified and an investigation was continuing. No arrests had been made to date.
A spokesman for the Northants Hunt Saboteurs confirmed that the woman had been discharged from hospital. He said: "Amazingly, she didn't break any bones but mentally she is in shock."
The group had attended an opening meet in Knossington, marking the beginning of the formal hunting season. The saboteur spokesman added: "We have suffered a lot of violence over the last few years but it does not put us off at all."
Detective Inspector Charles Edwards said: “Our investigation into this incident is in its early stages. We’re aware of a video of the incident which has been posted online. I would ask that people do not share anything that could impact our inquiries.
