Hungary star on Nottingham Forest 'radar' welcomes Premier League 'offer'

Barnsley midfielder Callum Styles has spoken about his dream of becoming a Premier League player amid renewed reports that the now-League One player is on Nottingham Forest's 'radar'.

The 22-year-old was reportedly the subject of a £1.5 million offer from the Reds back in January, though it was 'made clear' that Styles wanted to stay at Barnsley while they were still in the midst of their attempt to avoid relegation from the Championship. That effort eventually ended in vain, with the South Yorkshire side finishing rock-bottom of the second tier.

Since that disappointing collective end to the season, Styles has been enhancing his individual credentials on the international stage after helping adopted nation Hungary to a historic win over England in the Nations League over the weekend. Introduced as a second-half substitute, the midfielder helped the Magyars hold onto their 1-0 advantage.

Styles is eligible to represent Hungary through his late grandmother, despite being born in Bury and having never previously been to the country nor speaking the language. In the aftermath of winning against the nation of their birth, the three-cap international spoke of how such opportunities should help his hopes of playing in the top flight.

"These experiences can only help, you wouldn’t get at club level, and the calibre of player you play against is the most elite in the world," Styles said in quotes carried by our colleagues at The Mirror. "Our team has really, really good players also, and the standard is very good, so that is obviously going to help push my dream of becoming a Premier League player.

“Me and the club have spoke, and we think it is the best time to move on. I just need to sit down with my agent and see what is on the table. Fingers crossed somebody will come in with an offer because I want to play at the top, and the club have said that’s how they see it as well, so hopefully, it will be an easy process.”
