Hungary’s Michelle Gulyas emerged victorious in the women’s pentathlon, securing the gold medal and setting a new world record in the process. The thrilling competition saw Gulyas surpass France’s Elodie Clouvel during the laser run, the final segment of the event.
The laser run, a challenging 3,000m race, requires athletes to stop four times and accurately shoot five targets with a laser pistol before resuming running. Clouvel faced a setback during the first shoot, allowing Gulyas to seize the lead and ultimately clinch the gold medal.
Gulyas demonstrated remarkable composure after taking the lead, maintaining her position to claim victory in the pentathlon. Despite a valiant effort, Clouvel had to settle for the silver medal, narrowly fending off Korea’s Seong Seungmin.
The modern pentathlon, a multi-discipline sport, encompasses four events that integrate five different sports. These events include fencing, show jumping, a 200m freestyle swim, and the challenging laser run that ultimately determined the outcome of the competition.
