Hungary has unveiled its official motto for its upcoming presidency of the Council of the European Union, adopting the slogan 'Make Europe Great Again.' This motto, reminiscent of former US President Donald Trump's 'Make America Great Again,' was announced along with a new logo in a video posted recently.
The logo, presented alongside the 'MEGA' slogan, is inspired by the Rubik's cube, a world-famous Hungarian invention celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The cube features the Hungarian flag on one face and the EU flag on another, symbolizing unity.
This move by Hungary is not the first time it has echoed Trump's language. Earlier this year, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán endorsed Trump's reelection bid during an American-style Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) held in Hungary. Orbán used the MAGA slogan in his remarks, emphasizing the need to 'Make America great again, make Europe great again!'
Former President Trump, who has praised Orbán in the past, sent a pre-recorded video message to the CPAC conference, commending the Hungarian leader and expressing support for those 'fighting on the front lines of the battle to rescue Western civilization.'
Orbán's close ties with Trump were further highlighted when the former president hosted the Hungarian Prime Minister at Mar-a-Lago earlier this year. Trump lauded Orbán as a 'fantastic' leader during a public appearance at the Florida resort.
With Hungary set to assume the presidency of the Council of the European Union, the adoption of the 'Make Europe Great Again' motto reflects the country's aspirations for its role in shaping the future of the European Union.
