President Donald Trump has appointed Hung Cao, a retired Navy captain and former Senate candidate, as the next Under Secretary of the US Navy. Trump praised Cao as a representation of the American Dream, highlighting his journey as a refugee who dedicated 25 years as a Special Operations Officer.
Cao, who ran for Virginia's Senate seat in 2024 but lost to incumbent Sen. Tim Kaine, previously contested for a House of Representatives position in 2022. His campaign website states that he immigrated to the US from Vietnam in 1975.

Notably, Cao has expressed skepticism regarding the legitimacy of President Joe Biden's victory in the 2020 election. During a debate, Cao refrained from confirming whether he believed the election was conducted fairly and if Biden was duly elected.
