Hundreds of shoppers lined up outside IKEA’s Warrington store today on the last Sunday before tougher coronavirus restrictions are set to hit the region.
A queuing system made up of barriers was set up outside the store where customers faced a wait of around 30 minutes to get inside.
Staff ensured all customers in the queue were kept at a safe distance from one another and safety measures were followed.
The scenes today were similar to those witnessed back in June when non-essential shops were allowed to reopen following the national lockdown.
At the time, waiting times to get inside were much higher with reports of customers waiting in queues for hours.
This weekend is tipped to be the last before the Government introduce a new three tier lockdown system, according to reports.
It is believed an announcement will be made tomorrow and the Liverpool City Region could face more restrictions with pubs and bars ordered to close next week.
This weekend also saw queues form outside supermarkets again, with Sainsbury’s Great Homer Street store asking customers to shop alone where possible.

There is no indication at this stage non essential shops will be ordered to close again under future lockdown restrictions. Retailer are asking shoppers not to panic buy and insisting there is enough stock to go around.
It’s important to remember a face covering must be worn when visiting any store, unless you are medically exempt.
