Hundreds of people had fun in the sun at an extremely busy open day at Loreburn Street Police Station on Saturday.
Organised by Dumfries community officers, the five-hour family day out had all ages queuing to get into the police station from early morning as it was the first time the popular gathering of
partner emergency services, and other supportive organisations, has been held since 2018.
Visitors were invited in to the station to see the region’s Police Museum and CCTV suite; to get up close with the force’s cars, motorbikes and quad bikes; and to see the public order equipment.
The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, Nith Inshore Rescue, Tam the water rescue dog, Moffat Mountain Rescue, Dumfries and Galloway Youth Work, Trading Standards, Dumfries and Galloway Blood Bikes and The South of Scotland Golden Eagle Project were also there with stalls, equipment and activities to entertain the crowds and share what they do for the communities in the
region.
Police Scotland Youth Volunteers were fundraising on the day and youngsters got the chance to sit in a police car with a competition to win a ride in one.
Community officers have given a “huge thanks” to everyone who attended.
“Special thanks to our colleagues from CID, Roads Policing, Armed Response and the Dive and Marine Unit, The Safety Camera Partnership, PSYV Dumfries and the retired officers who assisted in the museum. Not forgetting our four-legged colleagues PDs Gizmo, Charlie and Poppy – and their handler.”
