Hundreds of households left without water on Christmas Day after supply issue

Hundreds of households were left without water on Christmas Day due to an issue with the network.

Scottish Water confirmed that properties in G76, G77 and G46 postcode areas of East Renfrewshire had their water supply disrupted due to an operational issue at Picketlaw Water Treatment Works.

Bottled water was offered as a replacement while work was underway to restore supplies, with residents asked to collect at local schools.

The issue was resolved on Christmas evening by engineers with works now producing water once again.

However, residents in Newton Mearns, Giffnock, Thornliebank, and Clarkston have been warned that they could still experience no water and intermittent water supplies across Boxing Day due to the size of the network supplied by the works.

A statement from Scottish Water explains: "The network will continue to recover throughout the day. For those customers that do experience an issue, we have arranged for a bottled water collection point at Williamwood High School on Eaglesham Road and St. Clares Primary School on Waterfoot Road. Due to demand, more bottled water is being delivered to these collection points.

"We sincerely apologise to those customers who have been impacted by this issue and our teams will continue to work until this is fully resolved."
