Hundreds gathered to protest at the housing of asylum seekers at a former ESB site in East Wall, Dublin, yesterday.
Up to 300 local residents stopped traffic claiming the building was being used to accommodate male-only asylum seekers.
The protesters claimed they had been not consulted about the move and alleged the asylum seekers were brought in “under cover of darkness”.
Councillor Nial Ring said locals would open their hearts to those fleeing war but the lack of consultation had caused anger in the local community.
