Hundreds carry out search for Cardiff man missing since New Year's Eve

Hundreds of people have turned out to search for a Cardiff man who has been missing since New Year's Eve. Aled Glynne Davies, 65, was last seen in the Pontcanna area of the city at 11.30pm on Saturday, December 31.

The family of Aled, a former BBC Radio Cymru editor, issued an appeal for info on his whereabouts on New Year's Day. They said he had been out for a meal with his wife in Pontcanna on New Year's Eve before coming home and going out for a walk.

His disappearance was described as "very uncharacteristic" and his family said he was also vulnerable having possibly left the house without his regular medication. Aled has been reported missing to South Wales Police and is described as around six feet tall and wearing the dark green coat shown in the photo, a brown hat and glasses.

Appeals to find Aled have been shared widely in the community and on social media, with over 400 people helping to search for him across Cardiff including in Pontcanna, Penarth and Cardiff Bay. Family, friends and community members are continuing their search on Monday, including water searches, in a bid to locate him. South Wales Police is liaising with the family and conducting searches, CCTV checks and looking at Aled's phone activity for any info on his whereabouts.

Speaking to WalesOnline, a family spokesperson helping to coordinate search efforts thanked people for their support so far, saying they had been "overwhelmed" by the amount of people who had shown up and searched wasteland, parks and streets across Cardiff in the past 24 hours.

They said the volume of support for finding Aled had been "staggering" and added that their search efforts were being supported by voluntary search and rescue organisation CAVRA, as well as by people offering trained sniffer dogs.

In a fresh appeal for information, the family spokesperson said any CCTV from local shops or residents which might have traced Aled's movements on the night he went missing - especially those in the Pontcanna area - would be especially helpful to their efforts to bring him home safe and well.

South Wales Police has asked anyone who sees Aled or has any info which could help locate him to contact the force on 101 quoting occurrence number 2300000314.
