A Kilmarnock couple has been overwhelmed by all of the support from the community, after an estimated 200 showed up to their home Christmas light switch-on show, in memory of tragic baby Joey Forte.
Jordan Buckland, 22, and Derrie McAlpine, 23, welcomed a massive crowd at their annual Christmas light switch-on at the weekend, in aid of Children's Hospices Across Scotland (CHAS) after a grueling two weeks stringing up 60 unique illuminations.
The pair chose the charity after they helped care for Jordan's baby cousin Joey who passed away aged just 18 months in 2015 after being diagnosed with Krabbe disease, an extremely rare degenerative disorder of the nervous system.
Jordan said: "It was a really emotional night, especially when Derrie gave his speech.
"The crowds were massive and we weren't expecting such a massive response but it was really good to see.
"The crowds were packed into the street and the line went around the house, it was never-ending.
"I don't even want to look at my electricity bill when it comes through in a month! But it will be well worth it.
"We can't thank everyone enough for their support, it's been overwhelming."
Joey's brother Jax was given the special honor of switching on the lights.
Jordan and his fiancé Derrie reckon over 200 people showed up to their winter wonderland and the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) even showed up to give kids a ride inside the truck.
Derrie added: "We would like to say a massive thank you to the SFRS for an amazing drive-by and a big thank you to sweet treats who gave out 200 cones and juice.
"A massive thank you to Holly Hannah for her help organising and thank you to my mum Diane and my dad Luke for all of helping with the funding and the extra help.
"And a big thank you to Santa and his elf for playing the biggest part.
"This is all for the charity that comes close to our heart."
Joey's mum Linzi McKinna said: "I am forever grateful for their support to my son Joey Forte.
"Joey was diagnosed with Krabbe disease a rare genetic condition and CHAS would take us in and provide constant care to allow us to have respite.
"Joey had use of the hydrotherapy pool, we were cared for all day long provided homemade meals and a family room. It felt like our home. The staff and nurses were amazing. Couldn’t do enough for you. A well worthy charity and I’m so grateful to my nephew and Derrie and all who have donated.
"I will never be able to give back what the charity gave to us."
The lights will be visible at 61 Haining Avenue, Kilmarnock between 4.30pm and 9pm.
So far the couple has raised over £1,400 and plans to keep the fundraiser open until January 5.
