Humza Yousaf vows to fight to the last as SNP leadership race nears close

HUMZA Yousaf has vowed to fight to the last as the tumultuous SNP leadership race nears its end.

The new party leader will be announced at an event in Murrayfield Stadium in Edinburgh on Monday and the Health Secretary made his final official campaign visit on Saturday morning.

His rivals Ash Regan and Kate Forbes made their last stops on the campaign trail on Friday, in Edinburgh and Glasgow, respectively.

Speaking at the proposed site of the Eden Project in Dundee, Yousaf told The National he would continue to fight the campaign “right to the very end”.

He said: “I think you’ve always got to make sure you are campaigning right to the very end. I’ve been taught that since my first day in the SNP. You never, ever stop.

“You never stop until the ballot’s closed so this is not actually the last day, I’ll keep going and keep speaking to undecided voters right until ballots close on Monday.”

A winner is due to be announced on Monday afternoon – though a precise time is not yet known.
