First Minister front-runner Humza Yousaf visited Irvine on Wednesday to meet SNP councillors and activists.
The cabinet secretary for health and social care was at harbourside to boost his campaign to become party leader following a bruising debate on Tuesday night with fellow challengers Kate Forbes and Ash Regan.
He also visited Gro Coffee to learn about their work in building up a sustainable business.
And he was given strong backing from those among the North Ayrshire Council SNP-led administration.
Council leader Marie Burns said: "[I'm] delighted to support Humza for party leader.
“He understands the importance of our progressive policies and has been outspoken in support of equal rights."
Depute Leader Shaun Macaulay said: "Great to have Humza Yousaf visit Irvine. Fantastic turnout and passionate speech about building on SNP record in Government and setting out our positive vision for Scotland."
Youngest councillor Chloe Robertson added: “It was great Humza came to Irvine as part of his campaign. He shows every quality that a leader of our party, and country, needs.”
Mr Yousaf said: “Very grateful for growing support from the SNP members, including North Ayrshire councillors and local activists, who rightly are proud of our record in government and joined me in Irvine.”
