HUMZA Yousaf met with German ambassador to the UK Miguel Berger on Thursday to discuss building a European hydrogen market.
It comes just after the Scottish Government accelerated plans for a hydrogen pipeline connecting Scotland to Germany, with Energy Minister Gillian Martin telling The National that it represented a “great opportunity” for Scotland.
The MSP for Aberdeenshire East also announced on Thursday that the Net Zero Technology Centre (NZTC) has been awarded £200,000 from the Scottish Government to look into the feasibility and economic opportunity of exporting green hydrogen between the two countries.
It’s widely recognised that Germany will have the greatest demand for low carbon hydrogen as Europe moves towards net zero.
The leader of the SNP was joined in the meeting by External Affairs Secretary Angus Robertson.
Yousaf’s official account tweeted: “First Minister Humza Yousaf and External Affairs Secretary Angus Robertson met German ambassador to the UK Miguel Berger today to discuss our strong, enduring European connections.
“Scotland and Germany are working together to build a European hydrogen market to help us reach #NetZero.”
Subsequently, in a video posted to his own Twitter/X profile, Berger said they discussed “our co-operation on renewable energy, the potential for hydrogen, for offshore wind”.
