Police say human remains have been found at a property in Kudla in Adelaide's north where police have been searching for a missing person.
Detective Inspector Mark McEachern said officers found the remains in a hole beneath a shed at the rear of the property on Ormsby Road on Tuesday afternoon.
"We're currently in the process of conducting further excavations with the view of removing the human remains … that could take several hours," Mr McEachern said.
He said the case will be treated as a homicide and that it could take several days before investigators identify the remains.
Detectives had been looking for 38-year-old northern suburbs man Steven Murphy.
But Mr McEachern said police were "open-minded" about who it could be.
"The investigation is very early on, there will be a lot of work to do, a lot of people to speak to as with any homicide investigation."
SA Police said on Monday that detectives went to the Kudla property just after 6pm on Sunday after "receiving information relating to the address".
