Hull MP adds business leaders to her 'Big Conversation' tour

Hull West and Hessle MP Emma Hardy is inviting businesses in her constituency to join her ‘Big Conversation’ and share comments and feedback on issues they face.

The Labour representative has undertaken an annual listening tour of groups and organisations since she was first elected in 2017, and has added a business briefing to the programme for 2022.

Aiming to speak with owners and directors, the event will take place next week.

Ms Hardy said: “The Big Conversation provides helpful information and an opportunity to gather the thoughts and feelings of constituents, businesses and agencies to give me a better understanding of the challenges they face at a local level. All the issues raised in the meetings then form the basis of my parliamentary action plan.

“The wider Big Conversation programme is engaging with members of the community and local organisations about topics such as the cost of living, loneliness and isolation, youth mental health, Ukraine, immigration, crime and antisocial behaviour, the environment, violence against women and girls and many more.

“Business owners are likely to have their own views on all of those issues and more and I want to hear about the things that are good and bad for their organisations and their employees.”

Nordic House has been chosen as the venue, the business and cultural venue which is housed in the Danish Church at the corner of Osborne Street and Ferensway in Hull. It takes place on Thursday, October 20 between 2.30pm and 3.30pm.

Ms Hardy, who is behind the campaign to make Hull the co-working capital of the UK, building on the leading connectivity, direct London rail links and relative low costs, said: “I always look forward to the Big Conversation because it’s a fantastic opportunity to get out in the community and hear the issues that matter to people most. As part of that I really want to hear how businesses are coping with the challenges they face and what extra support is needed.”
