Hull City have announced the death of academy coach Kris Blakeston after the 40-year-old passed away following a short battle with cancer.
Popular Blakeston had been with the Tigers for 12 years, coaching a number of youngsters who would go on to represent the first team.
He coached at every age group in Hull's academy and had been taking charge of the club's Under-13s this season.
City were due to play Hall Road Rangers on Tuesday night in the East Riding Senior Cup, but the match was postponed out of respect to Blakeston.
Hull said in a statement: "Hull City were deeply shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of academy coach Kris Blakeston following a short battle with cancer.
"Kris was one of the longest-serving members of staff at the Academy, having worked in the Club’s youth set-up for almost 14 years in a variety of coaching roles with all age groups.
"He made a huge impact on the lives of so many through his work – both players who have gone on to enjoy careers in the game and those that have pursued other paths away from football.
"An outstanding member of the team, his personality, charm and infectious sense of humour will be sorely missed by all at the Academy – staff, players and parents – who have been fortunate enough to work with him.
"Everyone at the Club would like to pass on their thoughts and heartfelt condolences to Kris’ family and friends and politely request that their privacy is respected at this difficult time."
Former Hull youngster Josh Tymon wrote on Twitter: "Shocking news. RIP Kris. Huge influence on every single player who has been at the academy.
"One of the good guys and an even better coach! Thoughts go out to his friends and family.”
Tigers teenager Keane Lewis-Potter added: "Cannot put into words how I am feeling right now. The man who brought me into this club and helped me progress massively to where I am today.
"A truly amazing coach and an even better guy. My thoughts are with his family and friends. Rest In Peace Blakey."
