Hull and East Riding LEP sets out key priorities in a bid to drive area economy

The Hull and East Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership has outlined four priority areas as it aims to drive the area’s economy.

The HEY LEP has launched an economic growth and workforce wellbeing strategy following its formation last year at a time of major challenges for businesses in the area.

The LEP says it wants to build the area’s economy back better by focussing on the productive and innovative economy; the clean growth economy; the skilled and inclusive economy; and the competitive and resilient economy.

After a number of projects in the area have been at the forefront of the green economy, the LEP said it wanted to be a region with “prosperous, productive, and innovative businesses, across all communities”.

LEP chair James Newman said: “The HEY LEP growth and workforce wellbeing is a new regional strategy for Hull and East Yorkshire, which seeks to put in place a blueprint to drive economic growth and facilitate greater devolution of power and resources to the region.

“The strategy builds on the region’s economic strengths and prioritises the key elements to achieve its mission of the ensuring the residents of the region directly benefit from a more prosperous Hull and East Yorkshire.”

As part of its environmental ambitions, the LEP said it was wanted to maximise opportunities to drive economic growth in green industries, be significantly lower carbon industrial cluster by 2030 and net carbon zero by 2040.

The LEP was formed last year when councils in North Lincolnshire and North East Lincolnshire pulled out of the former Humber LEP, citing closer ties with areas on the south of the river.
