Hugo Lloris slammed as ‘past his sell-by date’ by Graeme Souness after latest howler in Tottenham defeat

Hugo Lloris is “past his sell-by date” after his costly error in Tottenham’s defeat to Aston Villa.

That is according to Graeme Souness, who laid into the Spurs goalkeeper following his failure to handle Douglas Luiz’s long-range shot on Sunday, which led to Emi Buendia’s opener in the 2-0 loss.

“I’ve said it for a long time, since the start of last season he’s made four errors that have led to goals,” he told Sky Sports.

“That’s the worst record of any goalkeeper in the Premier League.

“For me, he’s past his sell-by date.”

Lloris’ Tottenham contract expires in the summer and rumours have swirled for some time that the club are pondering moving on from their 36-year-old club captain.

Antonio Conte admitted post-game that conceding the goal, which made it ten in a row that Spurs have conceded first, could have been avoided.

He stated: “We conceded a goal. In football, we know that can happen.

“You dominate the game and then you concede a goal you can avoid. I think after this goal our feeling changed totally. I think the players felt they didn’t deserve to be 1-0 down and it was difficult. Now, we have to move on.”
